Blackmagic Design ships the switcher with a welcome wallet whose QR code leads to the free software. Plan for the rest:

• IEC mains power cable. Not in the box; the switcher has an internal 100–240 V supply.
• SDI sources. Blackmagic studio cameras such as the Studio Camera 4K Pro G2 connect straight in over SDI; set them to a 1080 format, because this switcher is HD only. HDMI cameras and laptops need an HDMI to SDI converter.
• BNC cables for every camera, output and the multiview.
• A multiview display with an SDI input and at least 1366 x 768 resolution, or an SDI to HDMI converter for an ordinary screen.
• A computer on macOS 14 or later, or Windows 10 or 11, for ATEM Software Control, setup and updates.
• Rack space. At 2/3 of a rack wide, it needs the optional Blackmagic Universal Rack Shelf in a 19-inch rack.
• The GPI and Tally Interface for tally output to cameras or tally lights, sold separately.
• A talkback headset with a 5-pin XLR plug, or a third-party intercom on the RJ45 talkback port.

How to Go Live with the ATEM 1 M/E Constellation HD

There is no streaming encoder and no recorder inside this switcher, so plan one of these paths for every show.

USB-C webcam output

Connect the USB-C port to a laptop and the program output appears as a webcam, at 720p or 1080p at the program frame rate. Choose it as the camera in OBS, Zoom or Teams and stream from there. It is the quickest route for hybrid meetings and for YouTube or Facebook streams run from a computer.

Stand-alone SDI streaming

For a stream that does not depend on a laptop, send one of the six SDI outputs to an encoder such as the Blackmagic Web Presenter HD, which streams an SDI source to platforms like YouTube over the internet.

Recording

To record the program, feed an SDI output to a HyperDeck recorder such as the HyperDeck Studio HD Mini, which ATEM Software Control can also operate.

One common mix-up: the ATEM Streaming Bridge is a receiver. It decodes a stream sent from an ATEM Mini Pro or ATEM Mini Extreme back into SDI and HDMI video. It can bring a remote feed into one of this switcher's inputs, but it cannot stream this switcher.

Does the ATEM 1 M/E Constellation HD have HDMI inputs?

Up to ten SDI sources. Every input has re-sync and frame-rate and format conversion, so a camera in 1080i and another in 1080p or 720p can share one show without external converters or genlock.

One multiview with up to 16 views, also selectable as 13, 10, 7 or 4. It has its own SDI output, separate from the six outputs, and shows labels, audio meters and tally borders. Use a display of at least 1366 x 768.

Is it rack mountable?

Yes, with a shelf. It is 1 RU high but only 2/3 of a rack wide, so a 19-inch rack needs the optional Blackmagic Universal Rack Shelf.

Is a power cable included?

No. The box holds the switcher and a welcome wallet only. The switcher has an internal 100–240 V supply rated at 36 W, so any standard IEC mains lead works.

Which software controls it, and do I need a hardware panel?

ATEM Software Control is a free download for macOS 14 Sonoma, macOS 15 Sequoia or later and Windows 10 or 11. A hardware panel is optional: the front panel handles setup and emergency switching, and an ATEM 1 M/E Advanced Panel adds a T-bar and physical buttons.

Can it record each camera separately (ISO recording)?
