Recorder or streaming device?
A recorder writes the programme feed to disk in a broadcast codec — the reliable master when the stream is not the deliverable.
A streaming encoder takes SDI or HDMI and pushes RTMP to a platform directly.
Most serious live setups run both, because a stream that drops should not also lose the recording.
